Bass Blues Scale It's recommended to Bass players to know the fundamentals of root and chord tones and be able to hold a song down simply but effectively, before exploring the world of scales.

A beginners mega tip (simple but mega important), is to listen to what the drummer is doing with the kick drum, and LOCK into a pattern that compliments what he is playing. A simple example of how to lock in, is if the drummer plays say a bom-bom-BOM-bom pattern on the kick drum, well you play a bom-bom-BOM-bom pattern alongside of it. This is essential if you want to put down a solid bass-line that holds the song together.

Then you can enhance the bassline by listening to and building on say the hi-hat pattern and adding it to the mix and so on. So having a good drummer here is useful to say the least.

Saying that, a good knowledge and use of even one bass blues scale can enhance and improve your sound. Here's a good primer that gets the UniGTR thumbs up.
